Our tasting room has been purpose built to have minimal impact on the environment and is sustainably run. The tasting room was built using recycled materials, is powered by solar panels and uses only rainwater. Even our food scraps aren’t wasted, but instead go straight to our worm farm in the garden.
Our tasting room is open Friday – Tuesday (excluding Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day) from 11am – 5pm. You will find us at 167 Elliott Road McLaren Flat.
Relax on the deck, immerse yourself in a personalised guided Tasting Experience and take in unparalleled views of our vineyards and beyond to the sea. With a large open lawn area to enjoy in spring and summer, and heating on the deck for autumn and winter, it’s always a perfect time to visit us.
If you are looking to experience the beautiful natural bushland of McLaren Vale at your own relaxed pace, you can pick up a local produce picnic pack and bottle of wine at our Tasting Room to enjoy within the Gemtree Ecotrail. Here you can explore the restored native landscape, relax in the wide-open spaces and use the BBQ facilities and playground.
Our Tasting Experiences are conducted seated at your own individual table. To ensure we can accommodate you and your companions, bookings are essential, and groups are capped at a maximum of six people.
Gemtree Tasting Experiences can be self-curated or if you prefer, leave it to us and we will guide you through a selection of our wines.

Whilst visiting our cellar door we invite you to take a self-guided walk along our beautiful Ecotrail, filled with native plants, birds and animals.
When the Buttery family took over the McLaren Vale property there existed a 10-hectare barren piece of land that had been cleared for cattle grazing. Within this land there was a creek line overgrown with feral weeds and strewn with rubbish from past farming use. We knew this area needed to be restored to natural bush and wetlands to vastly improve the biodiversity of our vineyard, contribute to the survival of local native species and ensure ecological balance was maintained on the property.
In 2001 the local community came together, clearing the rubbish from the creek. Gemtree partnered with Greening Australia to develop the site, planting more than 50,000 native trees and shrubs. The site is now a biodiverse wetland and a haven for native birds, plants and animals.
Our tasting room staff will point you in the right direction to the Gemtree Ecotrail. The Ecotrail is free and open to the public daily. Wander at your leisure guided by information points, perhaps taking advantage of the complimentary BBQ facilities surrounded by tall gums. The trail is about one kilometre long and is a comfortable 15 to 20-minute walk.
