Tasting Notes

Ernest Allan was a market gardener and the grandfather of Melissa and Andrew Buttery. Ernest Allan Shiraz reflects the true character of our premium organic shiraz blocks and the sustainable, chemical free farming that Ernest used to grow his produce so many years ago. This wine is literally Ernest - honest and true.

Colour

Inky red with purple hue.

Nose

Complex aromatic profile with intense richness, dark berries, spicy fruit and oak and cacao nib.

Food Pairings

Fillet mignon with wild greens

Palate

This is a classy, fruit-driven wine that has great structure without being over-bearing. Within the tight frame of the wine there is generosity of flavour with wonderful integration and balance between the fruit sweetness, oak, tannins and acidity. The liveliness on the front palate is followed by textural, velvety tannins and fantastic focus on the back palate.

Winemaker's notes

Ernest Allan Rivers was a natural farmer and grandfather of Melissa Brown our Biodynamic Viticulturist. He understood the relationship between the earth and his plants so we have tried to encapsulate his philosophy in this wine. We selected several iconic Shiraz sites that were harvested by hand. These special parcels were all picked at full flavour maturity
