A visit to Gemtree Wines is always a memorable experience, but the recent addition of a purpose-built Biodynamic Hut adds a whole new layer to your next visit.

Leon Bignell MP, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries and Minister for Tourism, officially opened the company’s newly built interactive Biodynamic Hut. Believed to be the only one of its kind in South Australia, the hut was built thanks to a $25,000 Cellar Door Grant as part of the South Australian Wine Industry Development Scheme. The hut was built using local and recycled materials, in keeping with the sustainability focus of Gemtree Wines.

“It’s great to officially open Gemtree’s new interactive Biodynamic Hut, which has been built with support from the State Government’s Cellar Door Grant Program” said Mr Bignell. “Adelaide is one of the world’s Great Wine capitals, South Australia produces 80 per cent of Australia’s premium wine, and creating education experiences like this will help attract visitors to our 18 wine regions and further contribute to our record breaking visitor economy which has reached a remarkable $6.3 billion – up from $4.9 billion just four years ago.”

Believed to be the only one of its kind in South Australia, the hut has been built using local and recycled materials, in keeping with the sustainability focus of Gemtree Wines.
The Biodynamic Hut will be a working hut, housing all of the biodynamic preparations used in the vineyards, including the cow horns that make the 500 Preparation. The hut will be open to visitors to Gemtree Wines, allowing them to go behind the scenes and see first-hand how biodynamic farming practices are used in viticulture.

“This has been a labour of love and we are so excited to be shining a light on biodynamics” said Gemtree’s Viticulturist, Melissa Brown. Melissa has been at the forefront of biodynamic viticulture in Australia, first embracing the alternative farming practices 10 years ago.

The hut will be open to visitors as part of guided tours held daily at 11.00am and 3.00pm. Visitors will be able to choose from a range of packages for their next Gemtree experience, ranging from an interactive tour and tasting to a private picnic in the adjacent Gemtree Wetlands, through to an exclusive vineyard tour and lunch with Mike and Melissa Brown.
