Paul Carpenter
Senior Winemaker, Gemtree Wines
A distinguished winemaker with over two decades of hands-on wine industry experience, Paul Carpenter began his journey unexpectedly when, after earning a science degree at Adelaide University, he took on a vintage cellar hand role with a local McLaren Vale producer.
Igniting his passion for the industry - and winemaking in particular - this position set off a chain of events that eventually lead him back home to the ‘Vale and to work with one of the region’s most celebrated organic and biodynamic wine brands.
Over many years, Paul's career has seen him contribute to the success of several prominent McLaren Vale wineries, as well as gain international experience in world renowned regions such as Beaujolais and Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France, and Oregon in the USA.
These diverse global experiences have shaped his approach to winemaking, blending traditional techniques with innovative practices to create wines that are both distinctive and expressive of their terroir.
Today, Paul is the Senior Winemaker for Gemtree Wines, where he continues to push the boundaries of winemaking while staying true to his local roots.
Known as a true Grenache enthusiast, Paul's award winning wines are celebrated for their vibrant fruit flavours and structural finesse, capturing the true qualities of the vineyards from which they originate.
