Our tasting room has been purpose built to have minimal impact on the environment and is sustainably run. The tasting room was built using recycled materials, is powered by solar panels and uses only rainwater. Even our food scraps aren’t wasted, but instead go straight to our worm farm in the garden.

Gemtree Eco Trail

Whilst visiting our tasting room we invite you to take a self-guided walk along our beautiful Eco Trail, filled with native plants, birds and animals.

When the Buttery family took over the McLaren Vale property there existed a 10-hectare barren piece of land that had been cleared for cattle grazing. Within this land there was a creek line overgrown with feral weeds and strewn with rubbish from past farming use. We knew this area needed to be restored to natural bush and wetlands to vastly improve the biodiversity of our vineyard, contribute to the survival of local native species and ensure ecological balance was maintained on the property.

In 2001 the local community came together, clearing the rubbish from the creek. Gemtree partnered with Greening Australia to develop the site, planting more than 50,000 native trees and shrubs. The site is now a biodiverse wetland and a haven for native birds, plants and animals.

Our tasting room staff will point you in the right direction to the Gemtree Eco Trail. The Eco Trail is free and open to the public daily. Wander at your leisure guided by information points, perhaps taking advantage of the BBQ facilities surrounded by tall gums.

The trail is about one kilometre long and is a comfortable 15 to 20-minute walk.

Your Escape into Nature

With shared philosophies and commitment to the environment and sustainability, Gemtree Wines and CABN are natural partners. Together, CABN expanded their existing accommodation locations to include sites throughout McLaren Flat amongst the vines and ancient towering gums of Gemtree’s natural beauty.

Our organic and biodynamic credentials have roots as old as our decades-old vines, we firmly believe it is our responsibility to improve the land for future generations. We are committed and dedicated to improving our soils, the environment and local biodiversity.

CABN’s simple approach is to create sustainable, off-grid cabins that leave as little impact on the environment as possible, located in breathtaking surrounds providing you with the opportunity to escape into nature.

Our combined partnership towards enriched experience-based hospitality allows you to connect with nature in one of two CABNs (Mila and Bella) situated amongst the Gemtree vineyards, encouraging you to relax, rediscover and reconnect.
